Every time I see such a beauty it makes me sad knowing where it went eventually . Those beauties are now rare finds. Only on remote and dangerous areas inside the deserts can be found nowadays ...
I've got a piece of gold that looks the same, you would have to use a microscope to see mine though! It's such a shame that this is probably a bar now.
At the time , no one of these miners know about the value of a gold specimen , they want just the gold out of it, not the nugget itself , if they knew how much it is worth "as is" probably it might have been saved from the dread end it faced !

Now that's a nugget!!!! WOW. probly would have gotten way more for it here, just the way it is
End story for that one , probably crushed melted and sold -by weight- for gold refiners. Poor nugget !
