Vandal, thank you for three inspiration. I said I've been wanting to make something like this but had a few design problems to work out. The picture you shared solved those problems. I had a piece of slate ( bought off eBay) it is the same size you used. Mine is not nearly professional looking but I think it'll do.
I used a piece of hardy backer with a chunk of aluminum glued on it then i primed it with auto primer cross grained with 100 grit w/d sandpaper (think mini riffles ) couldnt find any slate locally.. the dimentions are 6x18... if i was to do it again id make the tub smaller..
