About half a mile down the road from my house are two houses with a row of large cottonwood trees between them. A pair of bald eagles decided to build their nest in tallest tree this summer. So every time I passed by I looked. Saw the eagles many times and the chicks a few times being fed. I always thought how awesome it would be to have eagles nesting in your front yard.
Thanks Greg for the information. I know bald eagles are a common sight for many here in the U.S. but for me seeing one for the first time like that just threw me for a loop. What a magnificent bird. The word Regal comes to mind. Thank God they're a protected species.
We have a lot of eagles in SD, but most of them are transcient and are here thru the winter when no one likes to come to SD. Probablly best time to see them is in the winter below the dams on the Missouri river. By spring they start moving north and by summer we only have a few resident nesting pairs.
