Thanks Riverdigger. I been searching other forums also to try to locate someone around Montgomery. If I cant find some direction I will just take a ride up that way and look around maybe ask some land owners for permission. I will order a sluice tomorrow. I have some left over aluminum angle and flats that i can use for reinforcing the sluice
Keven, I can't say anything about AL. (never prospected there). But I have owned a Le Trap sluice for about 10 years and can say I like it. I got this before all these other plastic drop riffle sluices really hit the market. Something you should know though. When you get it new from a merchant, it will come with the head end closed up. From the factory they make them that way to be utilized in a highbanker configuration called "The Bank Robber" If you want to use it in a stream, you will have to cut out the head end to turn it into a "River Robber". It is a bit flimsy for river use and most people (including me) have added structural support around the edges to make it alittle stronger. They work best when used in slighty faster water than you would probably need for a Hungarian riffle type sluice. Faster water but still gets the smallest of dust gold. But it is very nice to be able to see the gold caught up in the first couple of riffles. When running all day, I just suck up the cons from the top three riffles/crevices and keep going. Clean up is a breeze. Just remove from the water, tilt to the side over your bucket and flush the cons down with water in your pan. set back down and your good to go again. It takes about 30 seconds to clean out. I get a lot of gold getting caught in the "Made In Canada" ( they are now made in USA by Jobe) depression. Its a kick!
Anyone have experience for prospecting in Alabama and would like to share some knowledge? I have only been once and that was to the Alabama Gold Camp, now I want to go again. Would love to buy a dredge but major purchases will be deferred until I figure what Im doing and where to go. Thinking of ordering a La Trappe Sluice and start with that and my 2 pans. Need to find a creek around Montgomery or Lake Martin where I can start. How do I go about finding a place where I can start with a sluice? Is the La Trappe a good Sluice to put in a creek?
