Dennis: If you are overloading your sluice, it's because either you are running to big of material, or to little water, or a combination of the two. The advantage of a trommel, is it screens the material before it goes into the sluice, and it takes a lot less water to wash 3/8- out of the sluice than it does 1in minus.

Clean n simple ... the hand crank seems a fool proof approach rather then messing around with motors, pulleys, and belts.
