Two check valves, but I had to place the second valve in the crash box so that the material wont cause it to stick open, and so that it will always stay at the proper angle to get a tight seal.
It works real good in sand and small gravels, but clay will clog it and call for a cleaning. It will also wear your arm out after a while of continuous pumping . But for getting into tight spots underwater like under and around boulders and bedrock cracks and crevices it really shines.

Do you use a check valve in yours? The one I made has 2 and it didn't work so well.
