  • Slate is iron?  Perhaps I should have said "dark" and not "black" sands.  Many minerals that are not iron based are black, ah er... dark.. LOL

Low magnetics though can be heated a bit and be more magnetic.  It helps to remove more of the "non blond" colors.

Get iron too hot though, and it's not even magnetic at all.  cool.

  • hey, i finaly got all that cleaned today. 99% at least. there was 2 oz  white sand in it (granite) lost a little weight but its all good now. need a rock crusher.

  • Taking your black sands (and we all know that not everything that is "black" in the sand is iron, or magnetic for that fact).  One trick is to take a small cast iron pot or even a cast frying pan,  put your cup or two of the black sands  (magnetic and non) and heat it up in an oven to about 400-450 deg. F.  (Do this while the wife is out shopping! LOL)    Now, if you have a large channel lock pliers or anything you can grab the pan out of the oven with, and then quickly dump the sands in to a 5-gal bucket of cold water.  It cracks and shatters and can then be recovered.  The gold does not crack, but separates from the matrix.  If you have some 16 oz plastic drink cups you can freeze them overnight, then just put them in the water to get it c-o-l-d.  Colder the better.  Let the cups float a bit and you can remove the plastic cups and leave the ice.

  • I dont get it this is an unNesary steep unless your burning solfides and then youll need to mill your Ore first. This is your cons from your sluice box ??
