  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY MORROW ROB GET THE GOLD.

  • Tahoe has had it's fair share of the white stuff this year so I am sure that you aren't missing that.   I have a rough idea of where you are over there.  That is certainly beautiful country.   I spent a couple of days a few years back staying at one of the cabins along the Yuba just east of Downieville.   I worked for hours and hours to find a little bit of the yellow stuff and had a great time.  I still have my little vial in my dresser.  That is the only gold I have found so far.   Being from PA where there is no or very little if any opportunity to find gold, it is just so great to live in an area where the possibility exists to find some.  What an adventure and we get to see a lot of God's great lands while we do it.
  • Sorry, I missed this message earlier.   Yes, that is good news for the gold prospectors.  I hope it deposits some nice big nuggets at your claim.  I sure hope they let you get back in there this year.   Good luck.
  • Bob, I got rid of my ATV a few years ago but I have a two-seater buggy that I use for my exploring and detecting.   The other guys that generally go with me have ATV's so we can do some exploring.   We stayed at Rabbit Hole last year a couple times and I just love it out there.   I don't know how much of the area you have explored but I know of a couple great places (old mines) that I could show you.  So much history around out there and rumor had it that there was/is some gold but I can't testify to that..  :-)   I'm hoping we can get out to Rabbit Hole soon but we will wait for it to dry out pretty good so I can try the drywasher.    I talked to Mark Womble a while ago and we are now shooting for the first weekend in April to hit Rye Patch.   I know you said that you have a Utah trip planned in April.  I will keep you updated on our trips and we will meet up out there.  Bring your camera....... why would I even think that you wouldn't?   :-)    We are planning to head out to Rabbit Hole for the 4th.  Went there last year and enjoyed ourselves so much that we are making it a tradition.  We went up on one of the mountains that overlooked the Black Rock and watched the fireworks and propane cannons.  You and whomever are welcome to come on out.
  • Bob,  I really enjoyed looking at your great pictures.  Makes me even more anxious to get out there.  I do however have one complaint, you have way too many snow pictures....   :-)    thanks for sharing the pics.
  • We had a few inches of snow here overnight.  Now as I write this the sun is shining and it is snowing.  Nevada weather is quite interesting at times.  I remember one time when I was out riding my ATV and it was snowing and it was as dusty as heck at the same time.  I'm from back east and this was kind of amusing to me.

Have fun and the rock and gem show.  I hope you are able to sell a lot of your findings.  This is probably a good time of year to have a show.  It will get you pumped up for this season.

I have never been involved yet in any dredging but it sure looks like it would be great way to find gold.   Good luck on helping to get things turned around on the ban.  I know that has to be frustrating to people who have been doing it for a long time and of course to anyone who was thinking of getting into it as well.  For the manufacturers of the equipment it has to be a killer for them.

  • Hi Bob,

Thanks for the note.  That would be great if we can meet up sometime.  We were out at Rye Patch in January for a few days and had a nice time..... no gold.... but a nice time.   I can't wait to try out the drywasher I built.  But from the looks of it right now it may be a while.  The weather is not being very nice for us.   We were thinking about going out next week but that doesn't look promising now.   When we go out we like to stay for several days to make the cost of fuel worth the trip.   I will let you know when we are going.

  • nice photos...
  • Rockhounding is one of the aspects of prospecting that I want to get into. I've been picking up pretty rocks for years and would like to learn what they are.

My wife and I went to the gold show in Roseburg last year and then went prospecting in a small stream near there. We didn't have much time, but found a few small flakes. I hope to get down there again soon and spend some more time.

The gold show in Salem starts tomorrow so I'll be there both days.
  • Bob,
Rye Patch has some big beautiful clear quartz crystals. The Humbolt range has quit a few spots that attract rock hounds.
I'd love to come play in the water :)
