What type of prospecting do you do?

I am a Northern Ca boy recently transplanted to San Diego area. Trying to figure out how to find some Yellow stuff in these parts. Since streams/rivers are not as abundant as in Shasta County I am starting to learn about dry washers and other equipment. Looking to meet up with people in this area who dont mind taking a guy under their wing to teach and show me the ropes.... I really just love being outdoors and finding yellow stuff is a bonus...
