  • Great idea Lu. I wish the EPA and other tree hugger groups would join. They would be shocked.

  • Memorial day weekend marked the one year anniversary of my starting prospecting. From day one I have always removed from the creek any glass, metal, wire fence, nails, lead, pop cans etc. that I have found while digging material. Anyone that has prospected with me can tell you how much I like finding lead. I think it confirms that if there were big gold in the creek that I am looking for it in the right places. This is the lead I have found over the year. The middle vial is 97 pieces of lead I found while panning at the Lewis claim in less than an hour. Sadly I only found 2 small flakes of gold with it. The right vial is 130 pieces of lead found in only 6 pans of material, over 100 of which were found in 1 pan. I have depleted the material in that spot, but while it lasted it was the best place I had ever found for gold.

It doesn't look like much in the buckets.

It paints a different picture when it is spread out.

The red shotgun shell in the top center was still loaded when I found it. The clear bottle neck on the lower right was full of dirt and gravel when I found it. Yep you guessed right, I panned the material and found a piece of gold.

I don't have any pictures, but I have found several dozen zipper links. I would have to say the strangest thing I have found while prospecting was a microwave oven. I would have needed my dredge to get it out of the gravel, so as far as I know it is still there. I will always continue to clean the creeks, but I'm glad the year is over, so I can start getting rid of this stuff.
