Residence

Hi guys. It's been awhile since I moved back here to Arizona and my big plans to go to Winnemucca and prospect the Majubas went up in smoke. A little medical problem and some RV problems and Voila! Here I still iz! I am still haunted by the pull I get from Nevada and my desires to prospect there! Nevada is still an area that isn't over populated with snowbirds and winter prospectors. It gets too overcrowded here at times, even if there is good gold here, I need space. Nam Vet stuff I suppose but it's real. What I want to do and really I don't know when I can, is move to Nevada and live out the rest of my days. It's a major deal with me, I still have a good 20 years or so left, maybe more if I watch myself. What my question is is that I want to explore the possibilities a little before I move and I'd like to get info both pro and con about where a good area is to live, I really only want to move once. Demographics: Not too hot in summer and not too cold in winter, snow is okay but not too much of it and not lasting forever. Altitude, I like it in the 4-5000 ft range. Of course I want to be as close to any past prospecting and rock-hounding areas. As far as taxes go, I'd like to be in the cheapest county, I'm not fond of state taxes unless they actually benefit what is right such as schools, wildlife recreation and education and not to just build the tallest building around and while I really do support laws and the police, not have all the money go towards a stronger and necessary police force, ie: immigration enforcement. Maybe I'm asking a lot but if anyone can think of a prime area that comes close to my ideal, I would appreciate the post.

  • You might want to look in the area around Ely Nevada, just west of ely is the area we call Occeola. There is a lot of BLM land and it is a known gold producing area. Our chapter, Las Vegas GPAA, have outing up there in the summer and our members find some good gold. Even had one member a couple of years ago detecting and found two pretty good nuggets (3 oz+). It is a little more rural up that way, but still close enough to get to Vegas if you want a little city time.
    • Thanks Dave. I've pretty much settled in to Prescott Valley, AZ now and signed a lease for a year. Ely is one of the places I plan to go for some detecting and such. I've done some reading on Occeola and plan to go there too. I don't care much for city life, it's why I signed the lease keeping me grounded out here in the country on ten acres of land. Five miles from town but still far enough that I'm not bothered. People tend to grate on me when I'm rubbing shoulders with 'em. I am GPAA and LDMA so I would not mind some good directions to the Occeola GPAA claim. I know it's not in the book. I do like rural!
