  • I know this is a year old posting, but i live just north of detroit. Been prospecting for a year now and have learned much. I am sure i have much to learn. Gold cube is the best item i have found so far, along with the panning techniques taught on the gold cube website. We have got gold in almost every river, some better than others. Best sample to date is 27 flakes in half a bucket of classifed materal. Ya, they are small, 50 mesh and smaller, but its fun just the same. Found 10 pieces big enough to pick up with your fingers. Just bearly though.
    • After losing my mom last year and dealing with her health issues through out the year I am looking forward to getting back into prospecting this year. I have plenty to learn. Randy where in the northern suburbs are you? I am in Highland an often visit the Birmingham/Troy area. I like the Gold Hog website and all of the videos that are posted on YouTube. There are many panning videos.

    • Hi Jim, nice to meet you. I live in clinton twp. If you want to get together i would like to meet another with the fever. I went out yesterday but there was just too much ice. With the temps going to zero this week i think we are done thill a good thaw hits. Want to get together then? Im not askeered of the cold.
  • Thanks for the tips Tim
  • HI Shawn,

Did find one spec at one of the outings. It was setup by a Michigan GPAA person. The MI GPAA put on another session directly opposite of this event. Did find some in the small GPAA membership special as well. That was two years ago. Last year all the outings were scheduled on dates I had golf tournaments. Hopefully that will not be the case this year. Hopefully we will be able to go to some of the abandoned sand and gravel pits in the area and find some.

  • Cool to hear some guys are in southern Michigan. Have you guys found any gold? Jim I have also noticed that the meetings are quite a distance for all of us.

  • Hey fellers, that is Jim and Shawn. I have looked over yer pages and ya'll are really new here anyway, so, I'm willin to give you  a little help ifn I can, but you might want to look over my page an see some of my started discussions, photos, an postings etc. then decide whether I'm someone you feel might be able to offer any kinda help or advice. I, also was directed to GPS here from t-net an quickly figured out Tim's site is the very best prospector site on the surface of this little dirty rock we call earth.

  • I am in SE Michigan (Highland and work in Dearborn) as well. I am also a newbie but have gone to a couple of the Michigan GPAA outings. Unfortunately most are not in our area. Based on what I have seen I am building a mini highbanker with hopes to use it this summer.

  • Hey Shawn, I grew up in Wyandotte and have lived in Flat Rock fer about 20 yrs.
