  • It is possible that the Canadian River may have flour gold in it. The river does begin in Colorado then through New Mexico then through the Texas panhandle into Oklahoma. Where it starts in Colorado is near at least one gold bearing area plus other river that begin in Colorado flow into the Canadian River at some point. Unfortunately much like the Arkansas River and the Red River, the Canadian now flows through man made lakes along its journey. Luckily before those lakes were former quite a good amount of sand made to our areas. Also when heavy rains happen up river can stir up the sands which helps them flow past the dams and may replenish sands in our areas. So you may have a good chance of collecting some flour gold from your section of the Canadian River. Another thing we must remember, over thousands of years the courses for these rivers have changed a number of times which means there maybe hidden pockets which aren't a part of the present river's course. Much luck and blessings.

  • Ted Cravins, I haven't been able to get around much lately, but I do know flour gold has been retrieved from the sands of the Arkansas River (its originates near Leadville, Colorado where gold is still found). Some GPAA groups in Oklahoma go to places between where it crosses the Kansas/Oklahoma border to Lake Keystone near Tulsa. I have collected buckets of sand from near Muskogee to east of Kerr Lock and Dam south of Sallisaw to pan at home (I did find a little flour gold from those buckets but in small amounts. I also know that north of Antlers, Oklahoma near K-River Campground off of Oklahoma Hwy 2 there is a section of the river where they allow prospecting (GPAA also has property there).

  •  I would like to do some propescting in okla . this summer and posability check out some possable river sites anyone willing to help me

  • Hit up KRiver campground to do a little prospecting after all that flooding this year. Managed probably 15 buckets through the highbanker for around 20 fine fine flakes. Didn't have a lot of time to do any sampling, spent around 4hrs there. There were other spots there I want to sample through the winter while the water is low.
