    We might know each other because my Dad, Bill Smith, is from Elgin. Anyway, if you are up for some adventure I can place you on a very possible hotspot in eastern Oregon. I used to live there and got a tip from a forest service guy. I have a map to the area and even did a hike of the rough spot in the hike. It's the site of an old mining town founded in 1860 that operated for 20 years then moved to the eastern side of that mountain range due to the snow pack. I'll leave it there, and if you are interested I'll give you the rest of the details, but the hike will be rough. I suggest pack horses and at least a 2 man team. Unfortunately I now live in North Carolina and cannot plan anymore for it. So, I'm giving it away to someone who might be able to take advantage of it.
