  • I've never tried out anywhere around Huntington. My best advice is to keep checking local streams for quartz cobble.Around here quartz may be in one creek, but one ridge over you can't find a spack of it.

It took my close to 10 years to track down my secret lunch time diggins,I just got lucky to have it so close to my job that I can go on my lunch breaks, heck my boss thinks it's neat that I find any at all and he don't care if my lunch runs over by an extra hour or so lol..

  • I've never took the pan to Coonskin,I'm gonna have to give it a whirl...I have heard stories of gold being found in the Elk River though. But I've never tried it out..

  • I live between Huntington and Barboursville are there any suggestionts abo ut where I could go to find some gold. I have found some flour gold over on thye Ohio River in _!+3)) County but only very fine stuff, there is so much black sand that its hard to seperate it from the black sands, not really worth the effort for what you get
  • Have you ever heard of gold in ythe creek that runs through Coonskin Park in Charleston
  • I work the cracks out on the bed rock, when I start finding lots of buckshot,I know I'm in good...Before I run it through the sluice,I always screen it down to 1/8"- and run it nice and slow.

  • Keep us posted on the recovery rate on that A51A.  I have used a couple Keene products and while they may be the things for places with 1/8" gold or better I found they failed miserably in the super fine recovery. Might be i'm not using them right but I seem to be able to use other brands and configurations without an issue.

  • I've been told that there is gold in the creek that runs through Coonskin Park but I don't know the name of it.
  • Excellent, James!!  It is always great to find gold where it "isn't!"  Better keep that spot a secret!

  • Yes it is,every last speck...found a nice stream with lots of small rounded quartz  in the cobble..Did some test pans, and now hit the creek on my lunch breaks at work with a Keane A-51A sluice..weather permiting of course...lol....  It's in Kanawha County

  • Is this gold from West Virginia James
