  • Good question Bill, A nugget of that size would simply fall under the header into the expanded metal and more than likely not move any further down the sluice due to it's size/weight. For gold of any size to leave the sluice would require that it move all the way to the back of the sluice or ramp and be entrained in the uplifting water flow enough to get lifted out of the sluice. The flow is not strong enough to overcome gold's specific gravity and so the entire sluice becomes natural nugget trap.

  • If you remember the earlier prototype at gold rush days, I was just angling up the outlet to help the larger material flow out. Later I realized I had the opportunity for one last capture point if I allowed material to walk up punchplate instead of sliding up a smooth outlet. So now the outlet serves a dual purpose.
