  • i did find three large flecks. i've been to the place when i was younger and have always wanted to go back. this was that time, but i only had a few hours there. befor i took the trip, i did my homework and found that gold was studied there in the past. knowing what signs to look for i quickly found a few spots to dig, and documented them (for what i call my gold gold). after 45min. of sampling a few good spots between climbing. i took the long trip home. three days later i took the samples and pan them. the first sample bag held nothing. the sec. sample bag filled of moss and sallow dirt held nothing. the 3rd bag for the bench you commented on held the three large flecks. there is gold there. metal detecting, i do not do. i injoy getting dirty and the hard work of hit and miss. thanks for the info.
  • Jeff,

Did you just find just fine gold in your testing of this bench, if there were any pieces of any size you might want to check the bench with a metal detector, some of that quartz may have some gold hidden inside that is not visible!!

  • yes, i know all all the geo. but what i was saying is i've never seen just quarts befor. and yes i did some digging and was happy of the outcome. i do plan to go back, and i found no signs of anyone prospecting in the area befor.
  • All of those quartz pebbles were at one time in a stream bed, they were rounded by water action, have you sampled any of this material?

This is what is called a "bench" i.e. ancient riverbeds and in places know for gold, these benches can be loaded with gold.
