The Avonmore river runs through Avoca, which was a Copper mining town/ closed since 1960's. It meets sister river Avonbeg at the "Meeting of the Waters" made famous by the Irish poet Thomas Moore who wrote a poem expressing his love of the beautiful place and was a close friend of Irish Statesman Charles Stewart Parnell, who fought for Irish liberty and liberation and freedom for all Irishmen and women .
