If this is Pseudogymnoascus destructans (formerly known as Geomycesdestructans), the only thing I see in the picture that it can live off of is the wood.
If it does I would think this is not Pseudogymnoascus destructans (formerly known as Geomycesdestructans), because it doesn't grow when temperatures get above 75 degrees, so you would think that the fungus touching the duct would be killed, it the duct never get above 75 degrees or so, I guess it could be.

Does that duct get hot?
