2 inch backpack dredge

Traded all the gold i brought in on the weekends for the last two months for this. Brand new, never had a drop of gas or even been assembled. Will add a fine catch under the box, and trim the end even and add a tiny angle aluminum lip on the end, but other than that, ready for next season.

  • WOW!!! That is really nice. I have a few places here that something like that would come in real handy.

  • sweet setup. Looks like he stole it out of my mind. I got the same type of setup. An old padded aluminum hiking pack frame. 6"x41" aluminum bodied sluice. I got a high output 2 stroke Mitsubishi 1.5" pump. It has ceramic something for long life.:) sounded good. lol $300 or something retail. Got one for $130 on ebay new. Stalled out looking for the right hoses. Light weight and durable. Has to be strong so it doesnt lose suction power. But all lightweight in mind. found some but they were $150 for what i wanted. and a Nozzle is $100.  So Im $250 away. Probabally $600 invested when its all said and done. Seeing yours makes me want to go finish mine. :) looks like a fun tool.

  • Hi Scott, I got it complete from a guy who bought it to dredge alone and then ended up working with his brother on a 4" and never even got around to setting it up. http://prospectorsplus.com/store/view_catalogCategory.aspx?cat=4

I was thinking about a PVC pipe float set, and borrowing a large piston ring compressor and squeezing a couple crab floats down and capping the pipes with them on the upriver end  to get the pointed ends, but havent done anything so far for that.was just going to hammer rubber plugs into the crab float ends to seal it up.  Seems doable.

  • Indy, Happy new year!

Were you able to purchase this all together or did you piece it together? If you purchased it as a kit would you mind sending me your source? I believe they have loosened the small mining dredge regulations in CA. so I would love to purchase one! Thanks Scott

  • Spur, our water is way to cold to get in cept summer. This one has legs and stand up. I may not put a float rack together for it since its too small for air anyway. I think I need a lot of practice before trying to float one lol.

Lugnut, your correct.  We have all of our rivers listed with times/seasons. Each one is different. Like the Raging River is only 2 months long, to protect 3 types of native fish there. If your working within the listed times the rule book is your HPA or permit. Thats general. You need to call in and let them know your running equipment that matches the guidelines. They will stop you if they have a fish or water quality project going on in that spot, or let you know to apply for a formal HPA (JAARPA) They also require the JAARPA if your doing any motor prospecting outside of the seasons, even on private property. It looks like this. If your running motors you have to have it onsite where the motors are. Otherwise for hand digging just follow the rules. No dredging allowed in lakes or non flowing water. To make up for that there is a weasel clause, that gives permission for every stream or tributary flowing into the named time restricted rivers along with the river itself.

FS, blm and the rest use this as the standards so they dont have to write their own lol. smart people.

If you read page one at the top it tells you the rule book is your HPA. If you go down to motorised it says your HPA is the printed rule book kept onsite. I ziplock it so it doesnt get wet.

  • What do the Floats look like do you have to blow them up or are they solid plastic ?

  • Can you run a dredge like this on WA creeks and streams legally? looks like  a nice unit for portability.

  • Great Days ahead. That is one nice little unit I would imagin the oil fill is an alin rench bolt making it a sealed crank case 4 sroke with a supper silent muffler what does the float bowl on the carb look like might have to drain before travil. I dig it all you need now is a Rino. some field tools
  • thanks mike
