That is a Nice Gravel Bar. Over on the other side of the River is the 'Old River Bed' that is Where you Should Be Digging. Looks like the river made a turn and is Cutting away at the Cliff so down stream you'll get a lot of Sediment from that Cliff and the other side is were all the Heavies are falling out.
