    Just have fun. If you like getting outside, find some other  prospectors and they will work with you. If you don't know anyone around check here, at the site. Just watch plenty of panning and prospecting videos from u-tube and practice. Most of us don't get rich but You will find with the hobby and the friendships that you build will be great and the gold that you find is a bonus. Basically just have fun. If there is something in a particular area that you have a question shoot it to me or post it here. there is a lot of knowledge here.
