New Mexico Chapters

   Has anyone heard of an Albuquerque Chapter being formed? And if so, when, and where does it meet? I'm just curious, as I was thinking about starting up a chapter in the Grants area, but since hearing of the possibility of a chapter starting up in Albuquerque, I'm just wondering if I should go ahead with my original plan, or try to join the Alb. Chapter. What do you think?

  • There has been some talk about a Chapter in ALBQ. The Last I heard but about 5 months ago is that the Papers were being Drawn up. Thats was the end of it. Darn. Because I have sean alot of comments that people want one. Plus its extra Claims, and Prospecting Buddies to have outings.

  • A GPAA chapter would be nice.  If you can get a chapter going I always liked the idea of coordinating with other chapters in adjoining states to have get togethers at claims that the prospective chapters are familiar with.  Makes it easier to have fun that way.  Are their any non-profit gold clubs in N.M.?  With a little effort you can establish one and lease claims from other prospectors or other properties from land owners.    Many landowners welcome the money for paying property taxes.  There are many issues to address but it can be worth it.  I would like to do some prospecting out there.  Hopefully this summer.  I hope to hear from someone, maybe we could get together for some color.

      We have recently renamed our group, it is now the "Northwestern New Mexico Gold Prospectors" we meet the 2nd saturday of each month, at the 1st street cafe, on Santa Fe avenue, in Grants. Meetings run usually from 11AM to about 12:30 PM.

    • Thanks Tinpan,

      I hope I  can stop and visit you while traveling through New Mexico.  I would like to do some drywashing while there. or run my sluice or both.  Stay in touch.

  • I saw in the Sept/Oct. issue of Gold Prospectors Mag., that there's a chapter down in Alamogordo now, with mine, and the one in ABQ, that will be 3 in the state. Also, I had to move the 1st meeting date to November 13, and it's now being held at the Senior Center in Bluewater Village.
  • Hey, thanks Todd and Tom, I did receive some documents via E-mail from HQ finally, and I'm working on several names for the Chapter now, as well as some by-laws. I'm working with the local college here to see about using one of their classrooms for a meeting place, until a permanent home can be found. Here's one of the ideas for a banner that I created on the computer, hope you like it;

    • LOOKS GOOD!
  • Hey good luck! I tried to start a chapter of GPAA in Ky. They never done anything for us. So maybe you will have good luck out there in the west!!!!
    • The GPAA has a book that they will send you with instructions and helpful hints for starting a chapter . One of the requirements is that you charge NO dues . On the good side not all members hava to be GPAA members . You can work GPAA claims as well as developing claims of your own that DO NOT have to be shared .
