Mining all summer as a job.

I lucked into a summer job to die for. I get to watch a claim and mine gold for free. so far it has been fun but I am getting tired and still have to move another 20 yards to hope to get total a 1/4 OZ. for the summer. I did pop a three grain nugget with my metal detector. I have to drain my high banker pump each night for now it is starting to freeze at night, elev. 7500 feet, and yes it is in the mountains, it is a public place to mine gold for a fee. That is why I am needed to watch the claim, to make sure everyone has bought a pass to dig. Fee is $20.00 for the weekend or 40 for the week. I have almost got 1/4 OZ. in 11 hours so you see you could make money on the gold you mine there. So where is this place? In Utah, Millard county , House range, in the Amasa valley. The claim is one square mile or one full survey section of land. How can this be? It is a section of land belonging to the state which is allotted to the school district. It comes up for bid every ten years, and is a seal bid. This is why the pay to dig comes into it, my boss has to pay the state fees every year of $640 ( dollar an acre ) and 4% of the passes he sells.  So who wants to dig gold before the snow fly's? Jimbo
