Southern Ohio

Is there any place open to the public for prospecting? I know that GPAA and OSPA have claims for members. I know of Bill's Pure Gold but haven't been able to track down an address yet. I think I once read that pretty much anywhere a road crosses a stream is considered public. Does anyone know if that's actually true? I'm in Charleston, WV. I'd love to find some places under 3 hours drive away to plan a day trip soon.

  • Update: I found a spot in Ohio using google earth. It was an area that was open to the public with a small creek. It's very near the Scioto river which is known to contain gold. After many test holes and much panning I did manage to find a very small amount of gold. Wish it wasn't 2+ hours drive away.
