Rapidan and Rappahanock rivers in Virginia

summer is almost here and its time to get back out in the rivers, the water is at a safe level and almost clear, still on the cool side but that is what wetsuits are for. I plan to update this post to give river conditions to anybody that wants to go out. I mainly dredge the Rapidan  near Elys ford. there is public access to the river from the DGIF boat ramp.

    I think it's time for me to buy a dredge. I will start looking when winter get here. I am came to the conclusion it's has to be a 3 or 4 inch. I don't want to waist my time.

    So how was your season so far john? I have about a 5 gallon bucket of cons to go through. I did a lot of prospecting in Oh,SC, TN, IN, this year while on vacation. I'm hoping to reach the 2gram mark this year. All the best joe

      I have about 5 five gallon buckets of cons from this year so far, got lots of pickers and a small nugget along with chains, padlocks and hundreds of bullets and fishing weights

    9/30/15 river up almost 10 feet over night looks like the summer dredge season has come to an end. More rain in the next few days maybe I will still have a little more time after it returns to normal in the next few weeks, just in time for the leaves to clog the foot valve

    8/28/15 no rain, both rivers are still low and bathtub warm,

    8/19/15. Summer pattern is here no real rain in over 3 weeks. Both rivers are low and bathtub warm. Sand bars and tailing piles are now islands

    Found a nice .52 cal. Sharps ringtail dredging near Wilderness run on the Rapidan river yesterday

    7/31/15 UPDATE Rapidan is low and clear at elys ford, saw rappahannock at Kelly's ford was up due to thunderstorms up north was slightly muddy don't know what it is like from confulance down stream, should be dropping fast
