  • It doesn't appear to be native platinum to me.  I have recovered native platinum from dredging in Ca and Or and placer platinum will definitely look like a metal… shiny silvery grey - with an iridescent blue to it.

If you want to know what your material is, you might send it off for XRF analysis.

  • I believe everybody and anybody that sees or hears about somebody doing something that may be dangerous should speak up and say something. we don't always know what safety precautions one is taking, and if they are taking all safety precautions like Nygold then the advice should be accepted as if it was coming from a close friend the way Nygold  accepted DirtHogg advice. we all need to look after each other, thank you DirtHogg

    • Absolutely! I do all of my heating/burning off outside and upwind! Never indoors - not even in my open garage. Always go with being OVERLY cautious!!
  • No offense taken thanks for the advice but let me clarify this was done on a camping stove outside upwind from any fumes there could have been wearing a face shield as I have learned from ore blowing up on me when heating
  • Here are some more photos. They all react very quickly in hydrogen peroxide and I heated some over my stove and they turn cherry red/white and do not melt Also very slightly magnetic

    • Please don't take this wrong. But do not heat any rock or mineral in your house ,least of all on your stovetop.Besides pissing off the dragon, you will be releasing nastys into the air.I have a dear friend that was melting golds down to pour into molds .In his basement,he has given himself a case of heavy metal toxicity.Another friend is on oxygen and will probably not survive the year, due in part to cutting rocks for rock tables. He has severe case of silicousous.I know I spelled them wrong but please be careful.Another guy I know almost lost his eye very close and very sickening too see what he went thru,i could not even look at it!He was heating a piece of unknown ore with Map Gas it exploded and even though he has safety glasses on it still lifted or went under the glasses to get him in eye.Ever see them dogs that have that weird color eye.Thats Bill now.So please anyone reading this take all the safety care you can come up with.

      • Great advice lad thanks for sharing.

  • It's not as big as it looks but I am going to be doing some other test hopefully today to find out more and try to get some better pics for you

  • Well I am very familiar with PT.This I would bet is not.Besides the fact that the size of the PT would be very very rare if not found in say 4 places in the world.Try taking a very strong magnet.I use one from an old drive from a scrapped comp.Try to get the PT to move ,not pick it up just get it to move.Almost all PT in NA has iron or nickel alloys and will move slightly with IRD magnets. Also if the size of the PT was grain of sand size maybe. If these are indeed PT.You have discovered a world class deposit.Try melting with a propane torch it will not get hot enough to melt it if PT.Good Luck im hoping it is PT but not likely. You never know.now wouldn't that be a nice Christmas present a world class discovery.Thats why we all scratch at the earth you just never know when your gonna hit it>
