  • Wow!  Great finds.  That one piece you wave the pinpointer over is huge.

I would cut a slab off of one of them to see what the native silver looks like running through it.

    Could be jewelry grade stuff.

    • I only have the ability to cut rocks that will fit in my tile saw.  Some have come out rather nice.  I know some people collect slices as samples for their rock collection, but what can be done with jewelry?

On my last trip, I got some more big rocks and took a video:

Here is a couple of videos on slicing:

I have had quite a bit of fun detecting and recovering silver.  I have quite a bit and am not really sure what to do with it all....

      • Finding native silver in the host rock is fairly rare.  The material should have value beyond its silver content if it's aesthetically pleasing.  Fist-size pieces may be sold to mineral dealers, individuals, or online as "cabinet" specimens.   The very large pieces may be donated or sold to mining museums.  If the material is hard and will cut and polish, it would be wise to slab some of it and either learn to cab it yourself, or sell the slabs to whomever has interest.  What can be done with jewelry?  Gifts, profits….

Brittle material should probably be milled and processed for its metal.  Pour yourself a nice bar.

Get on some mineral dealer websites to get an idea of how minerals are displayed and sold to get an idea.

Just my 2cents and some ideas.  Took a quick look at your vids.  Looks like very nice material.

        • Thanks for the great input.  So far, all I have done is used a few nice pieces as gifts or trades.  I have a stack of it now and my wife wonders why I keep getting more....

  • That was very cool ! Looking at getting my first detector. What kind of detector was that? I'm looking at the Minelab GoFind 60 or the Garrett Ace 250

    • I was using a Gold Bug 29er, which is the one of the first versions of the Gold Bug SE.  I put a large Nel coil on it to get better coverage in a sweep and perhaps a bit more depth.  My buddy uses a Fisher F75 and it has been good for him.
