  • Its been a few years since this was posted. If you could go back, what from the pic would you change? Im just starting with several gold pans, classifiers, rock hammer, shovel, and buckets. But if there is something more, or less, Id appreciate your views.

  • Hi Todd, It looks like you're off to a good start. When I started out I worked the same stretch of creek for 3 or 4 years to figure out the way things work, it was one of the smartest things I ever did. Another good idea is to join a club, or do some networking and find a partner to play in the dirt with.  That way you don't spend a bunch of money on toys you end up not liking. There was a couple of things in the picture you attached that looked odd to me. I don't understand putting a leg kit on a sluice box.  It's the only way to go if it's a power sluice, but yours has a flair. I have a Keene A52, and I put a piece of ribbed rubber matting between the flair and the riffles. I clean it out with a snuffer bottle when using it, and use that material to test, and make sure I'm not running a bucket that has nothing in it. The stackable screens for the classifier is a new one on me too. Back when I was sluicing I'd beat the life of a classifier in no time, and a stackable set-up would be fragile.
