  • Personally I really like the Foreman² and we have the Recon² that Karen was talking about. I like it because of the flared riffle section, it seems to really add a lot of action compared to their older styles like the Adventure and so on. I also have an old AM Long Tom that I use and it works great but I've had enough friends with the Adventure sluice and have used it enough to easily see that Angus's new flared design really hits pay dirt with me. My friend Rodney here on the forum just picked up a Foreman² also after he fell in love with our Recon² last summer. We clean ours out after each bucket by just dumping it into another bucket with a little water from a pan, takes maybe 10 seconds total... As far as loosing gold, I haven't seen a problem unless it is set up wrong - but the directions and the lines of water flow that are marked on the insides of the sluice make it a no brainer. You just have to pay attention to the directions and set it up with the water level between the lines as it says and it works great.

Here's a couple pics of my grandson Ryden using it with Rodney :)

  • Thanks jaffy, Karen and Dickb, appreciate the responses, all very helpful!

  • Hi Chris  the angus mc kirk is a great lightweight sluice a few people over hear in Ireland use them and the very similar hungry haggis sluice box the only thing i would say is clean them out frequently say every couple o buckets of material  you run through we found we get more of the finer stuff at the end of the day aldoe it was very little  compered to feeding buckets through all day and only cleaning out a couple o times   they dont hold really fine stuff long compared to say keenes or other sluices with matting and moss in them but are still a great lightweight sluice and are super quick and easy to clean out ideal for if your prospecting different areas in the same day hope this helps.

  • My husband bought me one last year. I like it because it's extremely light weight, very easy for me to take down to the river. I especially like how easy the clean up is on the spot by just rinsing into a bucket. It might miss a tiny bit vs a sluice with a mat in it it but those are too heavy to carry around for just me and I'm not losing more then pennies of fly poop if I am losing any. It catches the small, fine gold well enough. I like that I can carry my pan, tools and the MacKirk easily and it doesn't hurt my back.
  • One of my AMCK's is a cleanup sluice and it does great on fine gold and flakes. About all you find in NC. The big ones catch as much as my A51 Keene. BUT they are really easy to do a clean up.  I have now gone to the gold cube with topper and I use it almost always. Except, when it's non mechanical only. For Pan only, I like a trinity pan.  Everybody finds what they are comfortable with. Dickb

  • Thx KEN and Richard, have checked out the bazooka sluice's as well....have done more sniping and smaller digs, so classifying has not been an issue to date....have either of you had issues with fine gold recovery in the MacKirk's?

  • I own several A McK sluices and they are good. I would suggest you check the Bazooka sluices. They work differently and may do better on fine gold. Just a suggestion. The more you know the better selection your choice will be.  Dickb

  • all of the mackirk sluices are great have cked out several of them over the years   they work great
