9-27/28 finds

Tried a couple new spots this weekend. One is a ballfield and the other is next to where I found the large cent a couple weeks ago. Didn't make any special finds this weekend but had a blast just being out there swingin. I did find something interesting in the woods that I took pics of and maybe you guys can help explain it. But first here's today's plate of stuff....

Here's the only target that got me excited lol. I love how the roots make a perfect ball in them...

Here it is all cleaned up and the hallmark....

So the ring is junk but digging them never gets old. That's ring #11 this year so far.

OK...here's the whatsit! About 30 yards from where I found the large cent, I got a big target and just under the pine needles was this. Solidly anchored in bedrock. At first I thought it was to tie up large animals like draft horses or oxen. But it's about 2 feet from a 6-8 foot drop off the bedrock ledge. Doesnt seem like a good spot for animals. Anyone have any ideas?

That's this weekends adventure. Didn't get any spectacular finds but had fun just being out there doing it!

  • If there ever was any logging done in the area, it could be a anchor point for some of the heavy equipment, like a tower for a highline.

  • Nice finds, Bob! Quite the pile! The ring thing looks like a boat tie up, a climbing rigging or as you say, an animal tie up. Would it be needed to climb up the bedrock?
  • very cool finds bob as always ....would be nice to know what that is for very cool
